New paper for Jessica Higgins
Graduate student Jessica Higgins published a paper with Heidi MacLean, Lauren Buckley, and Joel Kingsolver in the journal Functional Ecology. Their paper titled “Geographic differences and microevolutionary changes in thermal sensitivity of butterfly larvae in response to climate” can be found here.
Women and girls in science
Grad students Kate Augustine and Heidi MacLean presented at FEMMES (Females Excelling More in Math, Engineering, and Science) on November 16. The goal of FEMMES is to introduce 4th-6th grade girls in Chapel Hill and Carrboro to math, science, and engineering. Heidi and Kate brought the Manduca sexta caterpillars out of the lab to share with the girls as they tested thermal sensitivity of caterpillar feeding.
Undergraduate Kati Moore presenting research at SEPEEG meeting
Undergraduate Kati Moore will be presenting her research involving acclimation and biting rate in Manduca sexta caterpillars at the South Eastern Population Ecology & Evolutionary Genetics meeting at Mountain Lake Biological Station September 27-29.
New paper for Sarah Seiter and Joel Kingsolver
A new paper was published by Sarah Seiter and Joel Kingsolver entitled “Environmental determinants of population divergence in life-history traits for an invasive species: climate, seasonality and natural enemies.” The paper was published in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology and can be found here.
Ecology Society of America Meeting
Jessica Higgins will present her poster at the Ecology Society of America meeting August 5-9 in Minneapolis, MN. Her poster is titled “Physiological adaptation to climate change in larval Colias butterflies”.
